Lenny - a 29 year old Morgan gelding has pretty much done it all. He works
western, english, dressage, has been shown in halter, driven, loves trail
rides... There are quite a few Morgan owners who started their riding career
with Lenny. After finding out how much fun riding is, especially a Morgan, students
have gone on to puchase their own Morgans. However, since Lenny is no longer a
young horse, we limit his lesson time to beginners who are light and even then
only 1-2x week. He tried retirement but seems to love the attention he gets
during lessons and is such an awesome teacher that we had to let him have a
little "kid time".
Mary - Another Morgan. As a young mare, Mary was working with youngsters in
the W/T show ring while herself learning to be quite an outstanding hunt seat
and dressage horse. Western tack and riding just never seemed to suit this girl,
but she has more than made up for it with her performance as an english horse.
Jumping fit in well and Mary was even used for schooling three day event
competition by students. Trails are no problem for her either. In her semi
retirement years Mary taught a few adults how to become dressage riders and then
branched out into vaulting. Even tho she was usually the smallest horse at
competitions, Mary managed to take her young trot vaulters to several
competitions. The hardest thing for Mary was to understand that it was all right
for her kids to "fall off" - as she saw it. Mary still does limited lessons as
needed.
Terra - yes, another Morgan. Originally from a ranch in Montana, she was
used as a working horse. Since her arrival in California she has become a
western and english lesson horse. A big Morgan at 15.2+, Terra also has the body
and legs to carry adult riders with no problem. A very sweet mare that will take
care of her riders. And, as with most Morgans, loves her people.
Riley - OK, yet another Morgan., Riley was in, I believe, Nebraska, and
performing as a dressage horse when he was purchased by one of my students.
After a year of competition, his owner decided to go on to other interests and
allowed Riley to stay with us. He is a 15.1 gelding that is well schooled as a
dressage horse. He is more than willing to work for you and the better you
become as a rider, the more you will discover that he knows. We decided to
expand his horizions a little this year and are now working with him under
western tack.
Sequoia - NOT a Morgan! This girl is big bodied and will carry larger
riders with ease. She grew up riding the trails along the American River.
Western is her main thing but she can also be ridden English. Jumps are not
part of her skills...that would be...work! She is a lovely red roan appy with
spots. She also has an outstanding foal, a current 5 y.o. half Dutch Warmblood,
that inherited her color as well as her smooth gaits. He is not currently in the
lesson program but being schooled for a career in the show ring.
Bubba - an almost 17 hand thoroughbred came to me as a previous lesson
horse over fences. He learned to be a lower level dressage horse as well. Big
horse, beautiful soft, floating gaits with lots of suspension. For the
intermediate rider. Look for Bubba this year in the schooling show arena over
fences.
Fred - Well schooled as a dressage horse, Fred is a Dutch Warmblood gelding
standing @16.1. Very kind and sweet. Loves attention. Is not interested in
jumping or becoming a western horse. For the intermediate rider that would like
to advance and perfect their skills as a dressage rider. Still ready to go in
the show ring with the right riders.
Teddy - another Dutch Warmblood gelding, also standing @16.1. Teddy has
been a show horse over fences, works on the flat, knows a little dressage, and
has been ridden on the trails. A horse that is not for a beginner rider but
rather like Fred, a horse that can help you to improve your skills and compete
either over fences, on the rail, or in the dressage ring.
Some of our lesson horses are available for half lease to the right
student. Teddy is also for sale.
